Aromatherapy massage during pregnancy can help to reduce stress, anxiety, aches and pains. Encouraging a better sleep cycle.

You will need to have a full consultation prior to your treatment, so I can make blends especially for you. Safety of essential oils is of up most importance. I only use oils safe for use during pregnancy. The main aim is that you feel supported and are comfortable. As your bump appears the massage will be side lying with plenty of pillows to support you. You`ll be able to take the remainder of the oil home for use and other goodies to help ease any discomforts in between treatments.

As a massage therapist, I know the importance of touch, especially with the best of intentions. It needs to be meaningful and have compassion.

We need touch from the moment we are born until we die.

There have been many studies done on the effect of touch, as well as some disturbing studies where touch has been withheld. There are some studies that show positive effects are experienced the day after!
Touch can lower our heart rate, lower cortisol levels, and lower our blood pressure.

There are many ways we all self soothe through touch everyday. But in the clip above shows some great ways to intentionally touch with a loving intention and compassion.

I personally send those feelings down my arms to my hands. It’s as though I visualise those feelings flowing out of my hands. Whether that’s while I massage, self massage or just laying my hand on my chest.

And if you’re a hugger, find someone you really like or love and give them a hug!

Walking has many benefits.

You can walk your dog, my sisters childhood cat would also walk around the block when we walked the dog! But she would jump in and out of gardens in line with us.

Going with family members or friends, can help to reduce stress and tension.

You can walk alone and just enjoy being in nature in peace.
It’s about getting your body in a parasympathetic state. Which ever way helps you to decompress.

Walking on a regular basis can help sleep, which in itself can help stress levels the next day. As we get older sleep can become increasingly hard. It’s said that the walk should be 20-30 minutes long. A morning walk is also a great way to get your circadian rhythm in sync, as you’re exposing yourself to daylight in the morning.

Not all stress is bad, it’s a protection. For example to run away from a lion chasing us. The problem is when the stress response is prolonged.

Stress affects us all differently, for some it affects the digestion. Some with headaches, or feeling tight chested. Skin flare ups, Emotional flare ups. Stress can flare inflammation in the body.

Going back to my earlier post. ‘The body whispers, before it screams’. We need to listen to our body, so we can try to holistically ease the symptoms while they’re mild.

The most important way we can help ourselves is to bring our bodies from ‘the fight or flight’ response, to ‘rest and digest’ (parasympathetic system) where you feel safe, relaxed and calm.

I will add ways to help reduce the effects of stress, during April. 🌸

I have been so very lucky to have gone most my adult life with regular 28 day cycles and 3-5 day menses.

Since starting perimenopause at 38, not only have the times been progressively erratic, but so has the length and flow.

This menses has been particularly brutal. How I’ve coped is a mix of Nurofen and co codamol (migraine on Friday) to warm baths with oils to eliviate pain, fluid and reduce flow. Plus a tens machine that heats. Along with being understanding and taking it a little slower. Which meant not being able to go to the gym with my son, but still got out in the sunshine for a walk with the dogs. 🐶 ☀️, which made me feel better.

This blend is great for period cramping, excess fluid - both heavy menses, fluid retention/bloating. I had it already mixed up for a sore knee which had some fluid. But also good for pain, inflammation and excess fluid issues.

Because of perimenopause, gone are the days of my regular every 28 day cycle. More often the days between are longer. They’re not the same in length or flow. This cycle isn’t so bad. A little lower back pain, and a bit on the heavier side, but manageable.
I’ve had a busy week giving treatments, which I love. I’ve been meaning to have an essential oil bath all week, but put it off. Then I had a migraine yesterday, which forced my hand to take it easier. The body knows what it needs. It is why I would always suggest a woman leading up to a period should have restorative and relaxing essential oils, as that’s what the body needs.
I chose my oils as combined they are physically: analgesic, antispasmodic, diuretic, vasoconstrictive, hormonal regulating, and emotionally they create a feeling of well being and calm. Harmonising and balancing moods. Very good for mood swings.
The blend without Plai would be a good support for perimenopause and menopause. 🌸

Our bodies are amazing, I’m in awe to what they can do.

Basic Auricular Reflexology training today using TCM and ear seeds. Which extends treatment time, as the client will go away and stimulate the seeds when needed, for the next few days.

My little model came with a headache that was related to hormones. So we massaged the ears, put the seeds on.

What I love now is that alongside this I massaged her face, head, neck and shoulders. Making soothing movements. But also the oils of geranium, lavender and sweet marjoram. To help balance hormones and relieve the headache.

Different approaches to soothe and regulate. We are complex and sometimes we need more than a single approach.

Taking time out from a chaotic week can help to recharge and relax you, preparing you for the week ahead.

Mindfulness is something that I didn’t realise I’ve being doing since having children. Having 4 little ones, I used to have a nightly shower, where I mentally washed the day away, and savoured the moment, enjoying the hot water, the smell of the products, this would really help me relax before bed.

Mindfulness is being present in the moment. It could be enjoying a coffee, without your phone or the tv on. Savouring the smell of the coffee, the warmth of the mug and the taste.
You can apply this to other daily things you enjoy doing.

Meditation can help with anxiety, improve stress and depression. Lower you heart rate, improve sleep and many more additional benefits. Even if you start and try for a few minutes to start with, it will get easier each time.

With both mindfulness and meditation it is normal for your mind to wander. We have lots of thoughts, worries and general noise so don’t worry. Don’t get frustrated just acknowledge the thought and let it pass.

Journaling is a way to get feelings out onto paper, it also helps at bedtime if someone is overthinking, writing down those thoughts or reminders of what needs to be done tomorrow can help to settle the mind. If it’s done as part of a nightly routine it can become a relaxing part of a nightly wind down. It’s your method of releasing feelings and thoughts, so you could add doodles and drawings, anyway that expresses and calms. There are different types of journaling, everyone is different, so find a way that works for you.

Meditation, mindfulness and journaling are very effective ways to help in a very busy and chaotic life. I really believe that children would really benefit from these to help navigate the big emotions that come with the changes in school but also with the changes in hormones. To help them be resilient. ❤️

When you’re under the weather there are essential oils that can help reduce symptoms. The diffuser blend smells so good.

Frankincense- helps mucous and catarrh, it’s uplifting and calming, mildly anti inflammatory, Helping to deepen breathing.

Sandalwood- soothes mucous membranes, is a strongly antispasmodic. It’s restorative and strengthening.

Ravintsara- anti microbial and immune stimulating. It’s uplifting. Antiviral, anti infectious, expectorant and antibacterial.

Bergamot- uplifting and relaxing, immune stimulant. Using this more for pep me up.

Clary sage- sedating, calming and strengthening. Antispasmodic for respiratory system.

Geranium- calming, uplifting and balancing.

Thyme linalool- strongly antispasmodic, anti microbial, bactericidal and expectorant.

Lavender- is just a wonderful oil that almost does every job possible. For a chesty cough it’s antispasmodic, analgesic, anti microbial.
